One of My Greatest Adventures: Hiking Mount Rinjani with 9 Girls!
人生清单上必须打一次勾的事
挑战印尼第二高的活火山 —— Rinjani wohoohoho
Why Rinjani, Lombok?
Rinjani has always been on my bucket list, and this year, I finally ticked it off — with 9 amazing girls from Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei.
This wasn’t an easy challenge. We actually trained for three months to prepare ourselves for Rinjani’s tough trails. Because trust me, this mountain is no joke.
Here’s how we trained:
✅ 5 km cardio run or swim every week
✅ Weekly strength workouts (because strong legs save lives on the mountain)
✅ One mini adventure each month — hiking mountains in Malaysia like Gunung Datuk, Gunung Angsi, or any other local peak to build endurance

Highlights of the Trip
Bukit Selong
Bukit Selong is a scenic hill in Sembalun, East Lombok, known for its stunning sunrise views over colorful rice fields and Mount Rinjani. A short hike leads to a star-shaped viewpoint, perfect for photos and peaceful moments.

Gunung Rinjani (3D2N Hike)
A bucket-list-worthy hike through rainforest, savannah, and volcanic ridges. Camp under the stars, watch the sunrise from the crater rim, and witness the volcanic lake from above.
Sendang Gile & Tiu Kelep Waterfalls
Nestled at the foot of Rinjani, these two-tiered waterfalls offer a refreshing escape with crystal-clear waters and lush forest surroundings.
Bukit Merese
Soft white sands, dreamy sunsets, and a perfect post-hike chill zone to wrap up your Lombok adventure.

✈️ Our Rinjani Adventure – Day by Day
Day 1: Arrival & Waterfalls
We arrived in Lombok and got picked up at the airport. It’s a 4-hour ride to Senaru, where we visited the beautiful waterfalls.
Dinner was at Rinjani Horizon Restaurant, and then we headed to Sembalun and checked into the super cute Bobo Cabin Hotel for the night.

Sendang Gile & Tiu Kelep Waterfalls
📍 Tiu Kelep Waterfall
A bit deeper into the forest, Tiu Kelep is the real hidden gem. After a 30-minute trek through rivers and forest trails, you'll arrive at a powerful waterfall crashing into a large pool—perfect for a dip. The view is magical, with mist and rainforest vibes all around. Truly a must-visit spot in Lombok!

Day 2: Hike Begins!
Sunrise & breakfast at Bukit Selong (no hike needed, just a 5-minute walk and stunning views).
8.30 am: We registered at the hiking counter and did a quick medical check.
10 am: We officially started the hike!
About 15 minutes from the starting point, some guys offered bike rides for 200,000 IDR (about RM60) for a 25-minute ride covering around 2.5 km. Seven of us decided, “OKAY LAH!” and hopped on the bikes. Three strong ladies chose to walk — it took them 1 hour 20 minutes to reach POS 1.
At POS 1, we had an OMG delicious lunch with a fruit plate. Blissful vibes already started with the first meal.
The weather was surprisingly cozy. People warned us about scorching sun, but we got cool, comfortable weather. We reached base camp at 5.30 pm, enjoyed the views, had dinner, and slept at 9 pm.
First night dinner? CURRY CHICKEN. OMG, SIBEH YUMMY. HAHAHA.

Day 3: Summit Attack & Long Day
We woke up at 2 am and started the summit hike.
By 6 am, we reached the middle point, and from there:
6 of us pushed to the summit
4 of us decided to stay below the peak and soak in the views
And honestly, even if you don’t reach the summit, the views are breathtaking. On the right side, endless green mountain landscapes. On the left, the majestic Rinjani volcano. It’s absolutely worth it either way.
After the summit, we returned to camp for breakfast, then began the journey to Pengaara, our second-night stop. We finally arrived at 8 pm — so exhausted but so happy.
Dinner that night? MAGGI SUP under a sky full of stars.
That moment — friends, Maggi soup, and stargazing — was EVERYTHING.

About Showering… or Not
Oh ya… small note. We didn’t shower for 3 days. HAHAHA.
The guides just dig a hole, build a little shelter, and that’s our toilet. The first one who poops or pees always feels the most blessed. LOL.

Day 4: Torean Route – The Green Wonderland
We woke up at 5 am and started the magical journey through the Torean route.
This route is literally greenery heaven. Trust me, you’ll keep saying:
“WAHHHHHH!” … “WAHHHHHHHH!”
It’s THAT beautiful. Lush jungles, cliffs, and the most stunning waterfalls along the way. But please be careful:
The trail is narrow and steep in many parts.
There’s one spot where you must hold onto ropes to cross safely.
Our team was so cute — we kept reminding each other:
“Pls be careful ohh! Don’t play phone. Watch your step!”
We reached the endpoint at 8 pm, had dinner in Sembalun, and CELEBRATED HARD because…
WE MADE IT!!!
When we reached the end, I cried a little… and so did some of my friends. Damn, it was touching. We did it, together.
Final Day: Ocean Breeze & Good Food
After Rinjani, we headed to Kuta town and checked into a villa. The next day, we visited Bukit Merese to enjoy the ocean breeze, then had a super good lunch at Bara Café.
I can confidently say:
I NEVER regret deciding to hike Rinjani. It could be one of my lifetime memories.

Where We Stayed – Rest Well, Adventure Better
An unforgettable adventure deserves unforgettable stays — and that’s exactly what we planned for this Rinjani hike. We carefully selected high-rated, cozy accommodations to ensure every girl gets the rest she needs after the trek.
Pre-Hike Stay (D1 ) – Bobocabin Sembalun
Before the hike, we checked into the stylish and futuristic Bobocabin Sembalun. Nestled at the base of Mount Rinjani, this unique smart-cabin stay is surrounded by mountain views and fresh air — the perfect calm before the climb.
With comfy beds, privacy, and that cozy wooden cabin feel, everyone had a good night’s rest to recharge before the adventure.
Post-Hike Chill – KABILLA VILLAS
After conquering the Rinjani hike, we slowed things down at Kabila Villas, a peaceful adults-only hideout in Kuta, Lombok. With private pools, cozy tropical vibes, and soft beds to rest our sore legs — it was the perfect post-hike reward. Just minutes from the beach and town, this spot gave us the space to chill, recharge, and soak in the island magic. 🌴💆♀️✨

🕶️ Gear & Accessories I Loved
Some gear I’d definitely recommend:
I also want to give a huge shout-out and thank you to OUTSIDE Malaysia for gearing me up with the IZIPIZI Speed L Cat 3 sunglasses and the Patagonia Surf Brimmer hat. Both played such a crucial role on this hike — the sunglasses were perfect for protecting my eyes from the bright mountain sun, while the hat kept me safe from both the scorching rays and the unexpected winds along the trails. Honestly, good gear makes a big difference, and I’m so grateful for having these amazing essentials with me on this adventure!

💭 Reflections
This trip taught me so much:
Life is short. Make every step count.
有些地方,也许只值得去一次,但那一次已足够刻骨铭心。

When free souls gather in wild places, we reconnect — with nature, with each other, and with the part of ourselves we often forget
